Aaganwadi Visit- Second year Students 2025

As part of the SY B.Sc. Food Science & Nutrition curriculum, students of Sheth P.T. Mahila College of Arts & Home Science, Surat, undertook field visits to various Anganwadi centres between 30th July and 6th August 2025, under the guidance of Ms. Meena Raja.

 A total of seven student groups visited seven Anganwadi centres across different zones of Surat, namely:

  • Group 1: CZ 12/13
  • Group 2: SEZ 52
  • Group 3: NZ 96
  • Group 4: SWZ 41
  • Group 5: WZ 42/43
  • Group 6: CZ 12
  • Group 7: WZ 41

Each group engaged with Anganwadi children, workers, and mothers through various educational and interactive activities.

 Key Activities Conducted:

  • Storytelling, poem recitation, and object identification games.
  • Health and nutrition-based games and fun learning sessions.
  • Awareness talks for mothers on hygiene, nutrition, and child care.
  • Measurement of height, weight, and BMI for growth assessment.
  • Demonstrations on handwashing and personal hygiene.
  • Distribution of homemade sweets, healthy snacks, fruits, books, and stationery kits.

 Observations:

  • Children actively participated and responded enthusiastically to the planned activities.
  • Nutritional support such as milk and mid-day meals was being provided regularly.
  • Anganwadi workers were supportive and cooperative, though some centres had limited space and resources.
  • Mothers appreciated the awareness sessions and expressed interest in implementing the shared health tips.

 Outcomes:

  • Students gained hands-on field experience in community-based nutrition programs.
  • Children benefited from playful learning, improved engagement, and nutrition awareness.
  • Mothers and Anganwadi workers received useful insights on health and hygiene practices.
  • Strengthened the linkage between college and community, fostering social responsibility and empathy among students.

Conclusion:

 The Anganwadi visits conducted by the students of SY B.Sc. Food Science & Nutrition were highly successful and impactful. The visits also promoted mutual learning — children and mothers gained health awareness, while students developed essential skills in communication, observation, and community interaction. The program thus served as an excellent experiential learning initiative, reinforcing the college’s commitment to academic excellence and community development.
