This scheme, sponsored by the Government aims to instill a feeling of social concern for the under-privileged and handicapped people. It trains students toward responsible and responsive leadership. The N.S.S. Unit of the college has been very active since 1984. N. S. S. Volunteer has to complete 120 hours of service in a year.

The college NSS unit under two programmes officers enrolls 200 volunteers and conducts regular activities and special camps every year. After NSS orientation programmes, students are placed in various organizations for carrying out NSS activities. NSS programmes include various awareness drives, health check-up camps, blood donation camp, rallies, street plays, tree plantations, etc. Some of the students participated in state and national level camps and State Republic Day parade. Our institution has been actively engaged in constructive extension activities in the adopted villages and the immediate neighborhood. The work has been well-appreciated by the beneficiaries and the students engaged have been rewarded with the satisfaction of having contributed to social welfare.

August 7, 2014Tree Plantation Drive was organized in the college campus. It was inaugurated by
Ms. Linda Dennis, Dean of Sports, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, in-charge
Principal Dr. (Smt.) K. J. Dholawala, Vice Principal Dr. Smita Bhatt.
A group of 5 students planted one tree. Each tree was given a name. All round the
year students will be taking care of the trees. At the end of the year, the best 3 trees
will be given prizes.
August 15, 2014Cleanliness Drive:
All the NSS volunteers of F.Y. and S.Y. participated in a cleanliness drive. The students
cleaned campus with a sense of duty and responsibility.
September 5, 2014Teacher’s day was celebrated. On this day retired teachers and outstanding
ex-students were honoured as directives by Gujarat Government.
September 24, 2014Cleanliness Drive was organized where NSS Volunteers cleaned the college class rooms, building, Foyer and complete campus.
On occasion of NSS Day, HIV awareness programme was organized.
October 2, 2014‘Gandhi Jayanti’ was celebrated in Shiv Gauri hall. Swachata Abhiyan and Swachata Shapath grand programme were organized.
21-11-2014 to 27-11-2014N.S.S Special Camp was organised at Panasgam. About 89 NSS volunteers from
S.Y B.A and B.Sc. enthusiastically participated in the camp. Various activities like
Heath Checkup, Sports competitions, Aarti Decoration Competition, Rangoli making
competition, Agricultural Scientist Dr. K.A. Patel gave a lecture on the importance of
medicinal plants, maintaining the quality of food grains and preservation of
environment and trees.
Self Defence Training and Snake Show was organised for the NSS volunteers, the volunteers also visited Cotton Research Lab and Culture Lab of a Biology College,
and gained knowledge about the same.
January 7, 2015Safal Yuva – Yuva Bharat Seminar was organized by Vivekanand Kendra, Surat.
Mr. Vatsal Vyas and Ms. Sonia were the speakers for the occasion.

January 26, 2015As per directives given by Higher Education, a Poster making competition was held.
January 29, 2015Dr. Jagruti, an NGO Worker delivered a lecture on “Why Donate Your Organ?” to T.Y students.
January 30, 2015An oath on cleanliness was taken and a Respectful silence of 2 minutes was observed on “Gandhi Nirvan Diwas”.
Also a Drawing Competition was held on topic “Gandhiji and Cleanliness”. 17 students
participated and best three were given prizes:

Hiten Patel an NRI who has dedicated his life for bringing positive change amongst fellow countrymen awakened and inspired the NSS volunteers towards their social responsibilities.
July 25, 2015NSS volunteers attended one day seminar on “Exploitation of Women- A Social Evil” jointly organized by VNSGU and South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce.
August 15, 2015Independence day was celebrated.
September 2, 2015“Swachata Sankalp Abhiyan”- all college students participated in this. Students took oath of cleanliness and later tied cleanliness bands on wrists of each other and pledged to work towards cleanliness.
September 15, 2015A meeting of NSS volunteers was held to review and plan for NSS special camp. Students were asked to form groups of 10 and prepare a skit/ street play and a patriotic song. Information regarding camp was given to them.

30.10.2015On occasion of Sardar Patel Jayanti a number of programmes were organized. 1.       A talk on “Life and Contributions of Sardar Patel” was held. Dr.Mukesh Chauhan from Gujarati department threw light on the life of Sardar Patel and his contributions in the freedom struggle. 2.       Book Review: – Bookson Sardar Patel were read out followed by book review and discussion sessions.  Students and staff attended the session. 3.       Essay Competition:- Students participated enthusiastically in the essay competition. 15.10 2015NSS volunteers attended a seminar on Traffic Awareness at Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium
  NSS Special Camp was organized at Umragam, Surat. Various activities like blood donation camp,eye checkup camp, cleanliness drive in the community, cookery and mehndi contest for community women along with lectures on health and hygiene, benefits of donating blood, Phyleria and importance of its medicine, etc . and daily performance of a sheri natak to bring social awareness in the society were highlights of the camp.

29.2.2016 Swachata Pledge was taken by all the students and staff of the college.  
03-03-2016 To 05-03-2016Health checkup of all students was held. Dr. Bhupesh Chawda and his team of doctors examined students. Anemic students were distributed iron tablets. Students with other health problems were prescribed medicines and referred for further treatment.

15. 06. 2016 To 21. 06. 16Celebration of Yoga Week Yoga Week was celebrated in the college. Students performed yoga throughout the week. Total 70 NSS student volunteers of Second Year and Third Year performed yoga throughout the week. Also International Yoga Week was celebrated on 21.6.2016 where students, teaching staff as well as non- teaching and administrative staff performed yoga.
21.6.2016A Talk On  RAJYOGA Was held in the evening at Vanita Vishram Shiv Gauri Auditorium. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mayor of Surat Smt. Asmita Shiroya. The speaker was Brahmakumari Dr. Sunita Didi. The programme was largely attended by all the staff of Vanita Vishram schools and colleges and the students.
06.08.2016FEMICON-16 – A One Day Seminar On Women Empowerment Organised By Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, supported By Surat Municipal Corporation.
15.08.2016“Azaadi 70” “Independence Day” The Vanita Vishram management, staff and students of 14 schools of the institution participated in the grand celebration. Various activities based on the theme “YAAD KARO QURBANI” like March –past,Patriotic Songs ,Patriotic Dance etc were performed . To inculcate the feelings of patriotism and make the new generation understand the importance of freedom, a young dynamic, ex-student of our college Ms. Sangam Mishra, a university topper, who has many laurels to her credit and was also awarded best cadet in Army Attachment Camp, was the chief guest and hoisted the National Flag in presence of all the students and staff on 15 th  August 2016.

The National Service Scheme is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year in 1969.

All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping needy. The motto of National Service Scheme is NOT ME BUT YOU.

A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would either be a college level or a senior secondary level student. Being an active member these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:

  • an accomplished social leader
  • an efficient administrator
  • a person who understands human nature
